hello subscribers

For about a week, I will be running a special for When a Stranger Comes…. It will be 99c here and abroad. Finally BookBub picked it for a promotion but just internationally. That’s a start! I’ve been trying to get BookBub to select it but they are very picky. At last, they chose it, but like I said, just internationally. However, they told me I can try for a US only promo in a month. This is huge for me. So I invite all of you to take advantage of the reduced price in the United States as I’m running another promo here with e-Reader News Today and e-Book Discovery. And, as always, I would love feedback in the form of a review. Where else can you be entertained for a few days for about a buck?

Troubling times

It’s been very hard for me to concentrate lately on being creative because it seems everyday our democracy is under attack. I took for granted that the USA would always be a free country, a democracy, and have an elected president. Lately, I’m not so sure. I worry because there seems to be members of our government that have taken bribes from a foreign adversary, Russia, and will not control a president who seems unhinged and moving toward being an authoritarian. I grew up in NYC where Donald Trump was a tabloid headline grabber and not respected. He was known as an immoral greedy bigot. It was shocking that he got elected. I can only assume it was because of fans of the Apprentice who bought the mystique that he was a very successful businessman and someone to be admired. He is not that man. He is an entitled spoiled child whose father bankrolled his fortune and bailed him out whenever he bankrupted a business. He also fleeced the government by using tactics to never pay taxes.

These facts about him can be verified. Nobody really knew this about him when he ran. The unsettling part is his excessive greed. I believe that his insatiable desire to become as wealthy as a Russian oligarch propelled him to try and seal the trump tower deal. Everything  he’s done since becoming president is with that in mind. He is subservient to Putin because Putin can make or break that deal. If he appeases the desires of Putin while president the tower will make him richer than he ever imagined. As rich as he’s always dreamed of being. Because with some soulless individuals their greed is a bottomless pit.

Putin wants to destroy our democracy. He is another bottomless greedy man. He wants to rule the world. Trump can facilitate that and we can see how he’s tried to sabotage what we stand for as America and Americans. The complicit GOP is letting Putin take over our country by enabling this president to have overreach, to increase income inequality, put us in great debt, divide the citizens into warring political factions, and create a scapegoat out of the free press calling it the enemy of the people. These tactics were used by Hitler. When will this horror end?

Yea for the groundhog

What a relief, a short winter. For those in the frozen parts of this country that’s very welcome news. I live in North Florida and temps in the low 40s feel cold. But I remember bone-chilling temps when we lived in NJ. We counted our blessings here this week that going outside was not deadly. But we have other climate worries in Florida–water. We have a lake house in north central Florida that over the years has seen drought-like conditions that has shrunk the depth and circumference of the lake. It was sad to witness. But lo and behold we have had a lot of rain last year and this year. And the lakes are coming back. Wonderfully back. But then I started thinking. Will there be too much rain? Will the lake grow to swallow our house? Will we pray for no rain again?

The climate crisis is real. The effects will be felt not if but when. Streets in Miami already flood during high tide. How far inland will the flooding creep? When will that happen? Eons ago, the entire state of Florida was under water. A gigantic hole two-thirds the size of Manhattan was discovered in the Thwaites Glacier in Antartica. This glacier alone could cause a ten foot rise in sea level. Coastal cities and islands can become submerged. Government officials that think we are not in a crisis will be dead by the time our planet is compromised. Young people realize the danger and are starting to make us old people think about what can be done. Because young people will be dealing with the crisis in real time. Dealing with the survival of our species.

Earth supports human life, but that can change. All the dead planets floating in space are a testament to how precious life is. We are throwing it away by polluting our atmosphere and we are close to a tipping point where change will escalate faster than we can adapt. We may never adapt.

Why are humans so stupid? I fear for my grandchildren. Call your Congressmen and women, your Senators. Tell them to put climate crisis on the agenda. It is not a hoax.

Shutdown and other things

So today, we have a partial government shutdown. Apparently, the third time this year. What I can’t figure out is how this president gets any support from anybody. He seems to be taking orders from Vladimir Putin. Learned all his catch phrases and tactics from him like Fake Media and dividing the country with lies. He has made the Democratic party his scapegoat for all the ills he has perpetrated himself. The GOP follow like sheep and do not call him out. Money from Russia has been funneled to them through the NRA. This now is known. So what is going on with our government? Why is Russia calling the shots? The populace will soon find out and it won’t be good for this president. For me, it can’t happen soon enough.

Om another note, I’m running a bargain basement sale on all my books through the holidays. For the low price of $0.99 per book, you can read my life’s work. My debut Walking with Elephants is a lighthearted slice-of-life story that brings to the table the serious work/family issues facing women today. Although written in the ’90s it is, unfortunately, still true today. We have not solved the dilemma of blending family and work for women in this country. Sunspots explores the heartache of losing a spouse after just a few years of marriage and how some women lose their identity when they get married making the adjustment to being suddenly single that much harder. When a Stranger Comes…is an allegory for the evil lurking in our midst. The social decay of modern society with its excessive greed, the ignorance of our political leaders, and our indifference toward the survival of all species from the effects of climate change, among other environmental pressures, are perhaps brought forth by the darkest forces of human nature. The narrative follows the trials of author Alexa Wainwright who is tricked into signing a book contract with the devil himself. Reviews are always needed and welcome.

I hope this Christmas does not find you in distress from the shut down. It does not affect everyone but those affected will be hurting. I’m sorry for that. I’m sorry for a government that does not work for the people but only works for those in power. Those who want a job for life. A government that uses scare tactics to pull people to their side by making the basic tenet of this country a fear mongering tactic. We, as a country, have always welcomed asylum seekers. My ancestors fled Greece and Russia for a better life. They did not apply beforehand but came on ships to Ellis Island. They were not brown. This is what this presidency really thinks–brown people are inferior, keep America white. But they are not as scary as portrayed. Not at all. I personally know many, sweet loving people who do the jobs no one wants. In fact, Trump hires undocumented brown people at his country clubs. God willing, come January, the Democratic Party which a is a party of the working class will bring caring back into this country. Caring for the refugee, caring for the poor, and caring for each other. Madam Liberty bears witness to that enshrined in the poem posted on her for all to read, it starts. “Give us your tired, your poor….”

A joyous holiday full of love and loved ones is wished for you all.

It seemed fitting that we had a day of mourning at this time of the year. We sing of this season as one of joy, but it is really a time of reflection. For primitives, it was a time to ready the psyche for the harshness and strife of winter and accompanying hope for better times to come. As we became more civilized, the human condition demanded a way to cope with the inevitability of the end of our lives. It was fitting that the story of Christianity began in winter as it had been the time of year for great hope for the future.

President H.W. Bush had a strong and steady belief that there is a rich and welcoming afterlife where he will be reunited with his loved ones. And so he left this life with this comforting conviction. The idea our biological outcome, our inevitable end of life, transforms into a journey of the spirit is joyful and uplifting.

When we embrace thoughts of a continuation of conciousness, we find unlimited bliss. In this mental state, one can mourn the loss of a human but also celebrate a worthy life. These sentiments are told and retold this time of year by Christians when an enlightened master was born and gave us the cherished idea of life everlasting. A spirit world worshiped by early man as well.

This teaches us an important lesson. No one one escapes this destiny and nothing lasts forever. One human is either majestically important or not important at all. We get chances for rebirth or we don’t. No one escapes. So when we think that our democracy is in tatters right now, it is but a blip in the timeline of existence. Depending on whether humans will get serious about going extinct on this planet, all those alive today will leave this for others to fix. Or they won’t fix it and this planet will not be inhabitable for humans.

Whatever we do doesn’t matter, we can’t change our ultimate destinies. But we should take the time to express the wonder, miracle and  gratitude for our lives and the other species sharing this planet with us. We have now. Make the most of it. And maybe there’s something more, something of spirit. Something of bliss.
