Creating buzz

Why does it seem like some books get published and BAM! they’re considered bestsellers. NPR just reviewed a book on its FB page about an alligator wrestler. Say Wha? So how did that debut novel strike a chord? How do singers, actors appear from nowhere and become stars? Is there some unseen puppetmaster that decides all this? I know my book rocks–but no one of great visibility has asked to review it. No NPR, no NY Times, etc. So what is the mystery? What is the process to grab the attention of the public? I’ve had great reviews so far–not many reviews–but still really good reviews. My family tells me to be patient. But how do those authors become so visible? Who do they know?
