New cover, new thinking

So I bit the bullet and changed the cover for Sunspots. Got a lot of negative feedback and yes, it did look kinda cheesy and wasn’t feeling the love.  I do all my own work and that cover was probably a little beyond my comfort zone in photoshop–the shadow lovers were hard to get right and the background image wasn’t fantastic.  Also I used createspace cover creator and even though I changed it somewhat in photoshop, it screamed amateur. Well, kindle has a cover creator, and their templates are more professional.  Seems the style now is to have an cover image in full bleed and then the fonts for the title on the creator are great. So I found a great image, used kindle creator, then saved it and used a createspace template for bring you own image. Voila! New cover. It finally updated on my kindle product page after two days. Then I had to go Smashwords and upload the new cover. Easy, right? A, no. All of a sudden the book is throwing out a bad epub. So had to troubleshoot that. Then I had to relearn the software to make a new trailer. A lot of work, but will it be worth it? I hope so. I will try some advertising sites that rejected the old cover and that will tell me. Fingers crossed.

So I have finally quit obsessing over the cover and can move on. I’ve decided to add another book to my projects. One a little less lofty and might not be as daunting. My goal is to work on both of them, and finish the audible files for Walking with Elephants. Another learning curve another accomplishment. I’m becoming a great sound editor. Who knew? So I have a lot of projects to keep me from getting too bored and lazy in my senior years. It’s fun and better than being a slug in front of the TV.
