I became a fan of Joseph Campbell after I saw him by accident on Bill Moyers–a rerun of the broadcast. Joseph Campbell had one of the most fertile minds given to man. His legacy is continued by the Joseph Campbell Foundation and they have made available his lectures on DVD. I am watching them with my mouth agape and my mind enthralled. Brilliant just brilliant. All the stories of the world from caveman through Christianity have themes that are similar. It gives one pause when looked at from this perspective. Paganism, Roman Catholic, and the eating of fish on Friday–have common roots. All religions, pagan and not, talk about a flood. Huh. And there is so much more. Our religions are our stories about being human and we have been human with the same questions since early man.
