The writing world has changed drastically since I began this journey more than twenty years ago. In those days when I offered a free book I got two thousand downloads compared to maybe 10 today. I didn’t advertise the free book. Didn’t have to. Of those two thousand downloads, I got a handful of reviews and no bump in sales. Much like today. Self-published authors were a new internet subculture. Crazy fantasies were the rage. Sex with demons, billionaire erotica, and occasionally a really good literary story. The Martian was self-published but was appreciated by the masses and became a best seller. This gave all us self-published authors hope. But this success was rare and still is rare. Today, the inventory of self-published books has exploded so being discovered is more challenging than ever.
I finally realized that even though my work has been given awards and good reviews I am invisible. So what do I about it? Well, I hired a marketing company. The team at NY Book Experts has taken my entire body of work to make them discoverable. A+content for my Amazon pages, ads, and videos. Okay, let’s go. Let’s see a new world for me. Fingers crossed.
