Beware new marketing pitches

Well, I fell for it. I got approached through email with an interesting pitch. More than one  email started coming and that was how I got wise. The scammers read through all my information and seemed to know quite a lot about the narrative of the book they were pitching. The email went on being very complimentary telling me that my award-winning books were all under the radar at Amazon and that they knew how to bring visibility to them and get more reviews.  How much is the cost? They wanted me to tell them how much I was willing to pay. I said let’s start with $100.  I got  a few reviews right away on Goodreads. Then immediately more money was needed. They would optimize my key words, get my book on listopia.  And again wouldn’t tell me how much.

The bottomline is that I got scammed for about $300 all together and have had zero sales even with one book priced at 99c. In fact two emails seem to be written using the exactly same format and words and so I sent them to each scammer. I’ve asked for my money back but right. One forced me to use friends and family at paypal so I can’t open a dispute.

You live and you learn and I’m cautioning you authors out there. Learn from my mistake.
